PETALING JAYA: The success of a student who scored good marks in his STPM exams in Ayer Hitam, Johor was praised by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“This young man told me that he got an opportunity to pursue his studies at Universiti Malaya (UM) majoring in Social Management. I am very proud of him; he told me that he achieved a CGPA of 3.92 during his STPM examinations,” said the Ayer Hitam MP.
He added in a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct 9) that he met the student while distributing basic necessities to those in need in his constituency.
“I am confident and pray that this young man will succeed one day and be able to help and make his single mother proud, as well as his other five siblings,” said Dr Wee.
In a separate statement, he said that he also distributed food baskets, facemasks and hand sanitisers to p-hailing riders in Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng, Johor.
“At the same time, I reminded them to remain vigilant on the road and be careful for their own and other road user’s safety,” said Dr Wee.
The Transport Minister also said that most of the p-hailing riders are young people who were forced to join the industry when they were laid off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that there are 24 Foodpanda p-hailing riders in Yong Peng while a total of 31 p-riders were identified in Ayer Hitam.
Dr Wee also visited a woman who sustained spinal cord injury during an incident to hand her some assistance to help the victim.
“Mahmudiana Mahmud became bedridden during an incident after the fence of her house collapsed on top of her last month, causing injuries to her spinal cord.
“I visited and gave some assistance as well as some words of encouragement to her.
“Let us together pray for her speedy recovery,” said Dr Wee, who is also the MCA president, in a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct 9).
