ISKANDAR PUTERI: The state government will propose two sets of revised standard operating procedures (SOP) for congregational prayers in mosques and surau, one of which is to do away with physical distancing.

“We have been receiving a lot of enquiries from the public who want to know when congregational prayers can be performed like it was before the pandemic,” said Johor Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Tosrin Jarvanthi.

He said that two sets of SOPs would be in the proposal that would be handed to Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar next week for his approval.

“A meeting will be held with the state Mosques and Surau Management Division to complete the proposal before presenting it to Sultan Ibrahim.

“The first suggestion is for mosques and surau to operate at full capacity without physical distancing. The other proposal is to operate at full capacity with physical distancing.

“We will also get advice from the National Security Council and the Health Ministry before presenting the proposal to the Sultan,” he said when met at Bangunan Sultan Ismail during the state assembly sitting here on Wednesday (Nov 24).
