KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya will launch two surveys to obtain public feedback before it introduces the law to limit a prime minister’s term to 10 years and to prevent elected representatives from defecting to another party, says Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Wan Junaidi said the two surveys will be led by the Prime Minister’s Department’s Legal Affairs Division and the questionnaire will be given to the public and MPs from Tuesday (Nov 23) to Dec 7 next year.

“Another survey on the limitation of the prime minister’s term to 10 years can be answered from Nov 24 to Dec 8,” said the de-facto Law Minister during Question Time in Parliament on Thursday (Nov 25) morning.

Wan Junaidi was responding to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson), who asked the government for an update of the MoU signed between Pakatan Harapan and the government recently.

At the same time, Wan Junaidi said for the anti-party hopping Bill, a meeting between Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) and heads of political parties will be held next month.

Wan Junaidi said a draft on the anti-party hopping Bill has been prepared, but it is being placed under an embargo.

Wan Junaidi said there were still many policy matters on the anti-party hopping Bill that remained unanswered following a briefing to members of the Political Transformation and Stability steering committee on Wednesday (Nov 24).

“A technical committee will be formed with the membership of three Opposition MPs and three backbencher MPs to review the said unanswered matters.”

Wan Junaidi also said the Prime Minister’s Department Legal Affairs Division with the Attorney General will submit their preliminary findings on the Bill to limit a prime minister’s term to 10 years, latest by the end of the month.

The historic bipartisan MoU between the government and Pakatan was signed on Sept 13.

Among the proposed reforms in the MoU were ensuring independence of the judicial institution, MA63 and to strengthen the Covid-19 plan.
