KUALA LUMPUR: For just RM15 a day, groups of four Malaysians will be able to take unlimited train rides on the Rapid KL network operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd on weekends and public holidays.

The “Keluarga Malaysia” (Malaysian Family) travel pass that goes on sale from Dec 1 allows groups of four to use the LRT, MRT, monorail, and the Sunway bus rapid transit on the Rapid KL network without limit on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays in either Selangor or Kuala Lumpur.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who launched the initiative at KL Sentral here yesterday, said the new pass will not only encourage usage of public transport, but will also get Malaysians to spend quality time with their loved ones.

“This Keluarga Malaysia travel pass costs RM15. This means each person in a group of four only needs to pay RM3.75 to use the services operated by Rapid KL all day.

“Public transportation plays an important role in the success of the Malaysian Family concept. Apart from uniting the nation, it also helps to generate economic growth.

“This initiative will get Malaysian families to go out with loved ones while visiting shopping malls or places of interest found along the public transport network in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

“I believe that an efficient and well-connected public transportation network is important for the mobilisation of the Malaysian Family,” he added.

Also present at the launch ceremony were Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim.

Prior to the launch event, Ismail Sabri and other guests took the LRT from the Bangsar station to KL Sentral as part of a walkabout.

The premier also announced that Prasarana subsidiary Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd (Pride) will be offering a special package for small and medium enterprises from March 2022.

“Through this package, a total of 20 business lots, ranging from 80 to 400 sq ft in size on several routes, will be offered to small and medium industry operators through the drawing of lots,” he said.

The offer involves LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya line, which are Subang Alam and SS18, as well as those on the Seri Petaling line, such as Putra Heights, Alam Sutera, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, IOI Puchong Jaya, Awan Besar and Plaza Rakyat.

“Successful applicants will enjoy a special rental structure for one year, including a three-month rent-free period,” he added.

Dr Wee said the Keluarga Malaysia travel pass initiative will not only boost public transport use, but also help small traders operating along Rapid KL’s network.

“This is a great new package launched by the Prime Minister, where a person gets to enjoy a whole day’s rides for just RM3.75 from Dec 1 onwards.

“We hope this will encourage more people to use public transport and spur economic activity again along the public transport network in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor,” he posted on Facebook after the launch.

On Prasarana’s special package for SMEs, Dr Wee said Pride will announce more details in the near future.
