PETALING JAYA: Restoration work is underway for the UnifiTV service which has been affected by a fire that broke out at a Telekom Malaysia building in Cyberjaya.

The company issued a statement explaining the fire incident occurred last night (Jan 3) and the service disruption is affecting UnifiTV service nationwide, where it has close to 300,000 subscribers.

“At approximately 9.50pm on 3 January 2022, unifiTV experienced service disruption nationwide due to impact to the power system triggered by a fire that affected the ‘Uninterruptible Power Supply’ (UPS) equipment at TM’s IT Complex in Cyberjaya,” the company said in its statement.

It added that the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia “took control of the situation to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the premises”, and that no injuries were reported.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and TM will fully cooperate with any investigation as required by authorities.”

The telco added that its TMPoint outlet in Cyberjaya will be temporarily closed due to low power supply. It assured customers that other TM and Unifi services are not affected. The UnifiTV service is expected to be restored by 3pm today (Jan 4).

UnifiTV is an IPTV service offered by TM though Unifi with plans starting from RM30/monthly.

In a Dec 24 announcement, the company said it has restored the services of 85% or 84,274 customers that were affected by the flood in four states. It added that RM13mil has been allocated to replace equipment and other network components for free.
