PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed utmost regret over the accident that occurred late Friday (Dec 17) on the Elite Expressway.
“The Transport Ministry is extremely concerned with the road accident at KM8.3, near the USJ R&R, which claimed 10 lives, including a mother and her eight children,” he said on Facebook Saturday (Dec 18) evening.
He said all relevant authorities under the ministry, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), are currently investigating the incident involving a trailer and three other vehicles, to ascertain the factors that led to the accident.
Reports from these investigations, including the JPJ’s Inspection and Safety Audit (Jisa), will be furnished as soon as possible to the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) for further action under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
“If the company involved in the accident is found to have violated their Industry Code of Practice safety requirements, Apad will issue an order to suspend or revoke the operator licence of the company.
“The Ministry will not compromise on any company which fails to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Industry Code of Practice for Road Transport Activities,” he said, adding that these violations pose safety risks to other drivers, pedestrians, and the public at large.
