KOTA TINGGI: Wildlife rangers captured a wild elephant on Tuesday (Nov 16) at around 11am at Felda Lok Heng Barat near here.
Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department director Aminuddin Jamin said the captured bull was part of a herd of 30 to 40 wild elephants from the Panti forest.
He said their roaming areas were in the Felda Gugusan Lok Heng Barat, Felda Gugusan Waha, Felda Gugusan Air Tawar, Kampung Lukut, Kampung Temenin, Kampung Mawai and the surrounding areas.
“The herd was also detected wandering within the areas of Sungai Redan and the jungle of the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru,” Aminuddin said in a statement.
He hoped that by capturing the bull, it would help to reduce the human-elephant conflicts in and around Felda Lok Heng Barat.
“We would also remind members of the public to be careful and vigilant when they come across the wild elephants,” added Aminuddin.
